Attending a Quilt Show?
#41
I really hate to say this but the last couple years I've lost interest in the quilts because of the long arm quilting. It has taken so much out of the quilting world that I get disappointed. I love long arm quilting but I think it's taken over the quilting world & is done way too much on the quilts. I walk thru & look at them, take a few pics the I get my fill & head to the vendor. The Japanese have the most wonderful quilts in our shows in Paducah. Their workmanship is awesome & their stitching is so so unbelievable. I don't know how they get into the AMERICAN Quilt Show but they are something to see. Hope they haven't lost any in this terrible terrible trauma they are going thru.

Quilts! They drawmein and take my breath away.
Sometimes I go to quilt showsand don't even go to the vendor mall. I have hundreds of yards of fabric here at home and if I don't need anything, I avoid the vendors.

It depends on how big the show is. If its International Quilt Festival in Houston,TX, then I do the vendors first; as I usually know what I want before I go. The smaller shows I look at the quilts first.

i went to one in houston and one in denver, denver had the most beautiful and unusual quilts. then i attended one training class, in houston, this was a long time menory i will share:
My first trip wearing glasses, bifacial.
I left home on weds day and arrived in Dallas [10 hours] at my son’s home. We started down his slanted drive way to get my luggage. He had parked his car and truck close to the outside close to the edge so he could carry the trash cans down the center [it was trash day].
He walked along the narrow edge and I followed watching him. When, I stepped on the edge of the concrete and nothing, slipped off and fell face first down hill before I knew what happened. I knew on impact I was in trouble. A red pick-up was passing by, squealed to a stop and yelled, “Is she ok”? Bill said “mom, are you ok”? I screamed “no, I’ll not ok!” he turned and said “she is bleeding but she is conscience, that’s a good thing, she is ok”! My nose was bleeding my front left tooth was chipped out, my chin was hurting and my whole face was in severe pain. I got up and went back inside to clean up and asset the damage as I am spitting out blood and pieces of tooth! After blowing blood out of my nose carefully. I had taken my glasses off and put my sunglasses on. They have several deep groves in each lens. I called my dentist and told the receptionist what I did; she said she could get me in the next day. I told her my next problem was, I was in Dallas. So she made an appointment for the following Tuesday. I told her I was going to file that tooth down, and she said “no don’t do that”. I told her was would only file down the knife edge that was cutting my swelling lip! When I got off the phone Bill said “mom I could get my grinder out for you!.” I looked at him and said “you are your mother’s son and don’t make me laugh!’ I put ice on my face. [Now when you put ice on your chin, mouth, and nose it can cut off the air supply.] So now that is a new problem! O yes, the top of my left hand between the bones of the little and ring finger was hurting and turning a blue color. Soaked my hand in Epsom salts. [Bill said he would have fallen on the grass instead of trying to eat the concrete.] On Thursday the next day I got up and drove to Houston [5 hours] for my classes. I was such a sight and it got worst! One woman in my class gave me Tylenol with codeine and Tylenol pm so I could sleep. Then my left eyebrow begin to ache in class I did not know it was hurt, everything else hurt more. Well it was swollen also. Then the out side of my left elbow and left knee was shinned. Let me tell you what ever hurts the most gets first attention and the most ice. [If you should do this, don’t move your nose to the side when wiping it, the cartage can not take it after you have tried to jam it up into your brain,]
In class, I have a problem with my writing because my left hand is not functional, now it is iffy.
As the blood scabbed on my upper lip and nose I began to add colors to my face] brow, nose and chin] to go with the hair I can not curl with my left hand, it is just wet and go. I was such a sight, and try talking without moving your upper lip, Botox would have been a blessing. Well I got though my 4 days of classes and drove back to Dallas on Sunday afternoon. That night as I slid my feet under the sheet I felt something burn. The top of the polish was gone and raw to the touch. Monday morning I told Bill I felt something funny on one toe last night, and before I could finish he said” were the rest of you toes laughing?” I told him I would smack him if my left hand was not hurting, and don’t make me laugh.
Then I drove 10 hours home. I am going to bed so I can go have more fun with the dentist tomorrow. If he thinks he is going to use a drill on my tooth, he better be strong because I am bigger than he is.
I just saying, I’ve had too much fun.
My resonance:
Mom,
I heard of living it up when you retire, but I can think of more fun things I would have done than self facial reconstruction. I wouldn’t even call that fun.
At least you gave the other class mates a lift from there boring lives. Nothing they were experiencing during that time couldn’t be any worst than what you had self inflicted. Those how showed up to class complaining about their daily aches and pains must have felt blessed after seeing you, then felt ashamed for complaining.
It is amazing what you will go threw to make people feel better about their boring life’s. But you may also have made some fear retirement. Or whatever makes one try whatever you did on your own without professional supervision.
You said you were in Texas? Did any of the women in your class asked what you did to make your husband or boyfriend so mad? I bet some had made up similar stories to cover up a good beating, but then was amazed how bad the damage could be from actually doing a face plant in to the concrete on your own without someone else’s help. Those who know you, would Say “did you get rid of the body of the one who hit you”
I sorry that you had so much fun on your trip. I hope you feel better soon. Do you want to borrow one of my canes until you get used to those bifocals? If not I have a helmet you can borrow. You may want to make that recommendation to your Eye doctor that they loan out helmets or issue them out for the first few months while people get used to their new bifocals. You should take a picture of your face and we can make warning labels that say how dangerous Bifocals are.
Left me know if you need anything,
Your oldest son.
i am healed now replaced my front tooth, all is well.
