Attic Window pattern questions
hi.
this is my first attempt at this pattern - looking for some advice.
These appliques are from the young ladies of an African orphanage sponsored by some friends of mine. I thought the attic window pattern would be perfect but the border recommendation on the pattern is to use black. Since the focal square is black too there is not enough contrast. I am leaning towards the gold but put a few oter options around it. Any suggestions fr another color or votes for any pinned aleady are welcome.
I have 20 squares of various shape appliques. I am still debating about making a lap quilt with them all or mounting each four block set as wall hangings. Your help is so valuable to me as a new quilter.

Because the backgrounds are black, I would use gold or red to set them off -- solids or near-solids so patterning does not detract from the fabulous appliques. For red, I would use a bright, vibrant red -- not a vintage type red. (Hope that makes sense!) If you can't find the right gold, a vibrant yellow might do the trick. You really want to set off the black backgrounds with a hot, vibrant color (I think).
