Default Baby Loves Poetry Quilt

I noticed that some quilters on this site have made this quilt and the comments indicated they did not have any problems. I am attempting to piece this quilt together, however, I am having great difficulty in understanding Step 4 from the first set of instructions (the instructions came in 2 sets). The instructions are:

4) Sew the Fabric A 2 7/8” triangles to both sides of the Fabric B 4 7/8” x 2 7/8” strips, as shown. Press toward the red lines. Repeat for a total of eight (8) pieces in first color scheme. Sew the Fabric AA 2 7/8” triangles to both sides of the Fabric BB 4 7/8” x 2 7/8” strips, as shown. Press toward the red lines. Repeat for a total of eight (8) pieces in second color scheme.

My question is HOW can you sew a 2 7/8" triangle to both sides of a 4 7/8" x 2 7/8" strip???

I'm so frustrated! I'm am trying to finish this for the birth of my granddaughter which is coming up very soon. HELP!

Thanks for any kind of feedback - Judi

I have not made that pattern but is the 4 7/8 piece angled at both ends? You could sew a triangle to both ends if the 4 7/8 is a diamond shape?

You sew the triangle to the 2 7/8" ends, leaving the 4 7/8" sides with nothing attached would be my guess.

That would be my guess too.
Look at this link for a pic.

If I understand you, you are making the flying geese part of the pattern? (The big triangle at bottom, with small triangle on either side at top.) The top of the heart is two smaller units sewn together. Go to youtube and there should be a video to show you how to visually understand assembling them. Good luck. (My son took my computer with the camera with him on a trip for 3 weeks, otherwise, I would skype you.)

Thanks for all your replies. I will try the youtube suggestion from yngldy, as it is impossible to sew the 2 7/8" triangles to the ends of the rectangle. @ ranger - this is the pattern I am using (I downloaded the PDF) and if you look at #4 step in Instruction Set #1, even the diagram doesn't match up to what they are telling you to do. I am finding it very confusing. I refuse to give up though! Thanks again!

I read your title as "Baby Loves Pottery" and I thought what a strange name for a quilt pattern!!
