Default Request for information on Janome 3160

Does anyone own a Janome 3160 or have you used one? Do you like the features? Are there any you wish it had? What is your opinion? I am looking to buy a new machine and really like this model.

I have made several quilt tops, but have sent them out to be quilted. Now I would like to learn to do some of my own quilting. I would appreciate knowing what you think. Thank you.

I don't have a Janome, but the 1st thing to do is Google the name & model number. I did it before buying my last machine. There are pics, reviews etc.Hope that helps.

I love my Janomes. But if you are thinking about doing the actual quilting, you will want a larger bed. I have a Janome Decor but it is for taking to classes. You wont be able to quilt large quilts on it. The bed is short. Janome 6600 would be one to take a look at, for example.

I.have the 3160. It does have a pretty small harp on it. I took.a FMQ class from my LQS and it does well on smaller items. I just came to.the realization that I don't care for FMQ as I just think it is too.hard to wrangle a quilt through it. I do straight line quilting on.my quilts and I am happy with that. The 3160 is a pretty basic machine so there isn't a lot of bells and whistles. I do like my machine though. I wish it. Had the thread cutter on it. I'm guessing that you have a budget restriction if you are looking at this machine. There is a big price difference between the 3160 and the 6600 that someone else suggested. That being said, I am happy with my 3016. I have made some fantastic quilts and wallhangings on it.

When I am thinking of purchasing a new sewing machine, I go to pattern review.com and check out the sewing machine reviews. I has been very helpful to me.

I bought the 3160 last April to have as a machine carry along machine. I just love it. It sews such a great stitch and has all the features I need for piecing. I really enjoy the thread cutter on it. I use it more than I thought I would. It is a great machine for my purposes. That said, however, I don't know about FMQ on it. I have a long arm so I never used it for that. Hope that helps.

If you had a choice between the 3160 and the 4120QDC, get the 4120. I tried both, used the 3160 in a class at my local quilt shop (my besty works there). The 3160 is, oh how do I say it, cheap looking and plastic-ee. The 4120 doesn't look as cheesy as the 3160. The 3160 came out before the 4120QDC by a year, so I figure the 4120 just fixed what was wrong with the 3160. The girls in the shop didn't like the sound of the 3160, it was kinda noisy compared to the 4120. Just my opinion, I've tried both and now own the 4120.

I have the 3160 as well as the 7700. The 3160 is a workhorse and I take it to class all the time. It has features on there that I truely use and enjoy. The only thing that I can suggest is going to a shop and taking a test drive on it.
Good Luck in making a decision.

Thank you all for the input on the Janome 3160. Before I posted here I had checked the internet. That is where I chose the Janome. After that, I went to a store that sold several brands. I am pretty much sold on the 3160, but am curious about the 4120QDC now that it has been mentioned. I will also check out the 6600 again before I make my decision. Thank you again.

I love my 3160 but wouldn't want it as my main machine - it's my travel machine. The only thing I have to complain about is the lighting.
