I can't remember who showed how to join 2 pieces of batting on Simply quilts - overlap the edges, then make a long sweeping cut with your rotary cutter. Finally, use the faggoting stitch on your machine - not one of the zig zag stitches. It really does make the 2 pieces join smoothly, without 'volcanos' or lumps.

I buy it in a roll of 30 meters and 3 meters wide and join it down the middle, then once the top is quilted I cut off the rest or make sure it is at least 3 inches extra wide.

So here are the measurments for my bed.
    65 Inch across (Width)
87 Inch top to bottom (Length)
14 Inch down for an overhang

    Make sense?

I remember that. it was to do with QAYG. You made your top and started to layer it as if you are doing full quilt. You then divide the batting into sections so you can quilt it in strips have finished you and then you join the next piece. The wave cut was so you do not have as straight cut of batting in one line. After doing the second piece you continue until the whole quilt is quilted. I have tried that way but still prefer the one one of the people in our Quilt group showed is. It is a lot easier and quick. She showed us how to join the batting with a triple zigzag stitch at its widest and butted up together. I found if your batting is not straight overlay one edge onto the other and then cut both pieces together, that will give you the perfect edge to butt together.
