You can always add a little bit essence to your light starch and it will smell just as good and with the scent you want.

Thanks, Dru. Actually, I use unscented Best Press, so it doesn't matter. My concern about regular starch is that it's an organic product that might attract bugs and mice. I have an old house and the mice owned it long before we did. We don't have cats any more, so I have to be careful to keep them from getting into fabrics and stuff.

FYI, Best Press is also a starch product. They have added surfactants to help it absorb into the fabric faster, which helps with flaking. If you do a search for MSDS (MSDS = Material Safety Data Sheet) on Best Press, you will see it is a starch product.

The best way to stop starch from attracting critters is to not store starched fabric for any length of time. Starch it right before you use it, then wash immediately. Or you could switch to sizing instead.
