I was gave 2 huge tubs of scraps and yardage, they had the old musty smell to them. I washed with my deodorizer mix of Gain, Baking soda, Oxiclean, vinegar and Odoban several times with soak cycle in each wash cycle, for the 1st time the odors didn't come completely out. Needless to say I was surprised. I have ordered a gallon of Best Press to iron each of these pieces from scrap to yardage. My question is do you think with the scent of the Best Press it will get the remainder of the odors out? I'd hate to throw out so much fabric. It has some beautiful colors in it and some is several yards long. If you have any other ideas about the odors that are still lingering please let me know. I really don't want to through any of it away, it's beautiful fabric. Thanks to anyone that can help me out.

I don't know if the Best Press will work, but if you can't find anything else, there's an anti-allergy wash additive by Allersearch called Acaril. It is for dust mite eradication, but it was what got the musty funky odor out of several loads of linens and stored clothing I recently washed when nothing else had worked. I just wanted to kill the mites since I recently learned I am very allergic, so I was surprised when the load came out smelling fresh when even bleach hadn't helped with the smell. And I don't use anything with fragrance, so the smell was really gone.

It seems like a lot to pay for a small bottle, but it might be worth it to salvage that much fabric. Whatever you do, good luck!

OdorZout is supposed to be a cat litter additive, but it seems to work really well as a washing machine additive. I use it in combination with laundry detergent. Adding Borax to the load can be worthwhile too. In my opinion, vinegar is best used in the rinse water.

I honestly don't think Best Press will work. It is primarily alcohol, with a scent added to some of the versions. The scent may mask some odors, but the alcohol will not actually remove odors.

If all else fails, I would try sealing small amounts of yardage in a garbage bag along with OdorEaters shoe inserts (the ones with charcoal in them). These removed the musty smell from my old featherweight sewing machine case after nothing else I had tried worked. Charcoal is great for absorbing odors, but the difficulty is finding it in a form that will not transfer charcoal to the fabric. OdorEaters do that.

I don't think Best Press will remove the odors. It sometimes takes more than one washing to remove musty odors. I would soak everything in Biz and if that doesn't do the trick, use Borax. Best of luck to you!

My thought was to put outside too, may take a day or two to get it all out, but why waste money on chemicals when nature can do it.

Try "Sew Fresh" spray. It is an odor remover. Safe, organic.

I have the best luck when I hang fabric outside to get odors out. Works every time. I think Best Press will just temporarily cover up the odors at best. Nothing like fresh air and sunshine to do the job.

I don't think Best Press will remove the odors. If you press it with an iron, that might permanently leave the odor on the fabric.

I use a product called Pet Odor Exterminator. It is also sold as Smoke Odor Exterminator. Since I have 6 dogs it has really been tested. You can buy it at www.chewy.com.
