I always stitch my bindings on by machine. I have arthritis in my fingers and trying to hand stitch the binding is painful. I do it like so many have said: Stitch on the front, turn and use Elmer's School Glue and iron it down on the back, then SITD on the front. It holds beautifully, and no pins to deal with! I don't plan on entering any of my quilts in a competition, so I do what is easiest for me.

When making a quilt to show - I always bind by hand on the back, but if I am making a quilt to gift that I know will be used and loved, I do the binding by machine. I don't think it matters at all unless its an heirloom or quilt show quilt
