Hello everybody,
Im planning on making a blue jean/flannel quilt for my best friend. He gave me a bunch of his boys old jeans so I want to make him a quilt out of them for him. I have some really cute flannel fabric with penguins on it. He likes penguins. I was wondering what is the best size to cut the squares for this quilt. I think I'll just do a basic quilt. Just sew squares together. I was thinnking 6, 8, or maybe even 10 inch squares. I would love to hear all of your advice on making this quilt.

Hi, you could turn the jeans and flannel into a rag quilt. It would look great and very simple. You could Alternate between the jeans being up and the flannel. There very cuddly too. You could probably make it in an afternoon

I just finished cutting the jean squares and made them 11" -- the instructions I found said to use 1/2" seams and this they will come out 9" when finished. I still haven't decided the flannel that I will use....I am resting from the workout I got on the jeans :)

I personally prefer larger squares. The last rag quilt I made, I used 8" squares. The last nine patch quilt I made, I used 6 1/2" squares.

the ten i made with flannel and deniem was rag quilts. they are very easy but it does take time to clip the edges.
whether you do regular seams or ragged flannel and deniem go together great.

The last jean quilt I made, I made the sqs about an inch bigger then the back pockets of the jeans. Because I used the back pockets on each corner of the quilt, so I could use the flannel , that I used as the backing. I put it in each pocket like a hankerchief. Customer was real happy and liked it real well. Just a thought.
