Default BOM from PumpkinPatchBC

I'm a fairly new quilter. I've made about 10 quilts; most of them are small I Spy quilts. I've only appliqued some stars on the border of a quilt, which were a long way from perfect.

When I first saw this BOM, which starts today, I wanted to make it. I've had it on my calendar for a few weeks now. I went there today (she hasn't posted it yet) and I'm getting cold feet.

Has anyone done her (Beatrice Rieske) patterns? Are they beyond the skill of a beginner at applique?

Thimblebug6000 just completed the 2018 BOM from that site & we got to follow her along as she made each block & posted pictures. It turned out so cute & you can see it here: Dudley's Barnyard Buddies Finished Dec 2018
If for some reason the pictures don't show up, just refresh the page (F5 key on your keyboard) and you should see them.
She had a great time making the blocks & I would say to you.....go for it! Maybe she will come along & tell you more about the applique methods & if a beginner could do it.

the first block is out. Read through and see what you think. It is adorable, but I believe there will be alot of embroidery, whether you choose machine or hand.

Hi there, yes I made her 2018 and really enjoyed myself. I like doing fusible appliqué and finishing it with machine blanket stitch or satin stitch. I did have a quick look at her 2019 BOM which is white and black cats.(although I do like cats, I'm not interested in a whole quilt with them) ... She says the main cat part will be mostly one piece and then the white shapes fused to that, so that sounds like a perfect choice for an appliqué beginner. If you found the eyes or whiskers too small to appliqué you could choose to use permanent markers.

I am going to be making the Tuxedo cats, altho I may change the colours on some I don't think there will be a lot of embroidery-just whiskers and such. I have also used my sewing machine stitches to imitate hand embroidery and it works fine, especially when you are working on just a block, not a whole quilt top. I am also thinking this might be a good candidate for QAYG which is something I have been wanting to try.

Why not try just 1 block and see how it goes?

I downloaded the first block. I think it will make a darling quilt. I guess I'm going to have to watch some youtube videos on applique. I haven't embroidered anything in a long time, but I can't imagine that being the problem.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I love the cat. What site are you finding this BOM?

How do I find the site? It's been awhile since I've done a quilt.

I also am doing this BOM it looks like such fun and I do enjoy cats as long as they are not in my house but this kind is just right I say go for it and if you have any problems ask here and I am sure someone would help you or send you in the right direction. my favorite fusible is heat and bond lite it is not as fussy as some is to work with but when you iron it on only let it set till cools as to long and is difficult to remove also to remove crinkle an edge toward the paper not the fabric and is easier to remove
