Book Case Quilts......Need ideas
I am working on Christmas/Birthday gifts for two dear friends who love to read. I have made a couple of bookcase quilts in the past and try to customize them to the person with the “tat” I put on the shelves beyond books. I need simple items and would prefer not to appliqué.
The one I am currently working on has cats like her cats in color, teacups and a teapot, a castle, a Sherlock cap, and a Tardis. I could use a couple more bookish ideas.
These are the ones I have made previously......

Without knowing your friends' taste in books or hobbies it is hard to recommend anything.
Me, I like wine, tea, cats, Murder Mysteries, travel, food, chocolate, the cottage, ocean, beaches, kayaking, camping and more.
If I was making one for me, I think I would have to incorporate a wine bottle, wine glass tipped over (the cats) with some red wine staining. book spines either with the names of favourite authors or wine regions of the world. Wine charms would be cute too.

Tothill, your wine made me think of my naughty geckos escaping from the bug jar quilt I pieced far too late for my son to use but now will be finished for the grandbundle!
Since I'm not a very good housekeeper, I also put in a cobweb.
Edit: The pictures aren't very good, but there are also goldfish bowls and an Aquarium or two.

So far great ideas!
I do have Norbert from Harry Potter all ready for fpp from the HP bookcase quilt site but I am running out of energy and days to finish as the first needs to be in the mail before Thanksgiving. That’s what prompted the thread post. I am cutting the books as I post or was before I sat down! I am not doing the book spines as I would spend months putting the titles together! I have been in bookclubs with both and would go all meaningful. My aim is a bookish lap quilt to read under.
The other friend is the only person who doesn’t go near HP that I know. I tried to make her read them (my BFF) and after 4 or 5 years just took my copies home with me.
Btw, I love the gecko’s!
Eyeglasses is a possibility!

Print titles of favorite books on fabric. I've even copied the front of the book onto white fabric and "placed" it on a shelf so it looks like it is standing up. (Don't have a photo...didn't think to keep one).
Basically figure out what your friends/family like and go from there. If they like flowers, make a vase out of fabric and add either printed fabric flowers or you can even make 3-D flowers. Maybe you can even incorporate a framed quilt block as artwork.
Can't wait to see what you come up with.
