    Default Border tip

I am still working on my wallhanging border and I thought I would share a tip that is working really well. I have had to use my walking foot to quilt the little perpendicular lines but I needed the edge fastened down because I want to quilt as close to the edge as possible. I plan on trimming the wallhanging to square it up later. I had safety pins around the edge but I was afraid to quilt close to them. I trimmed the batt so was it just a little past the top and used painters tape to fasten the top edge to the backing fabric. It is keeping the edge really nice and flat even though I have to turn my wallhanging every 2 inches. One edge is trimmed and I will be doing the remaining edge today.

Clever! I hope the tape won't stick to the raw edges anywhere. I'm going to try it
    thanks!

. It peeled off well on the side I have already trimmed but I used my fingernail to pick up an edge close to my stitching line and peeled it down rather than just grabbing one end and yanking. Since I am trimming it to square it up any frayed edges will be removed also.

That's a great idea! I love painters tape. It works so well for so many things and is never too sticky. It sticks enough to work but not enough to pull off things you don't want it to. lol

I would b tempted to try some Elmer's washable school glue. Then you just wash the quilt when you are done.

Great tip. Thanks. It you made the border 1/2" wider than you wanted for the finished quilt, you could just cut along the edge of the tape. That would work, wouldn't it if you were worried about any tape residue getting left on the edge?
