Borders???
#1
I have a question....okay I am making a quilt for a new grandson due to arrive around Thanksgiving. I have my blocks put together and now I am going to put on the borders on the side...well...I cut them 3.5 inches in width, but they are just slightly too short, the length of the quilt is about 42.5 inches. I cut the selvedge off as little as I could get away with. Is it okay to piece the border? I really didn't want to, but is that what I need to do? I hope I am making myself clear.....if not..Tell me and I'll try again. Thanks.

I end up piecing my borders all the time. I think you will be fine to just add the extra amount of inches you need. I try to avoid having the pieced seam too close to the edge, cause then it really shows that you had to add just a little more.

Or you could choose one of the coordinating fabrics and put a square in each corner of the border. I had to do this on my aunt's quilt for the very same reason. It worked out beautifully. I think it actually enhanced the look of the quilt.

Thank You all for your responses.....I just needed to know. I did end up piecing, although not finished yet. I had planned on cornerstones, but I was still too short, and I didn't want to cut my fabric lengthwise, trying to be conservative on the fabric, but you guys gave me great ideas. Thanks. Now I have a question on thread.......
