Chenille (sp)
Has anyone quilted with chenille? I've been commissioned to make a baby quilt and it's quite an experience.....like trying to sew over popcorn! Should I iron seams open? Don't iron at all? And how in the world do I quilt it?? I appreciate any info you might have for me.

I made a twin that combined regular fabric with chenille in more or less equal amounts and had no problems. I believe the chenille blocks were 3 inch so I didn't need to quilt through them. They might not have been as nice and puffy looking if I had. I did ditch.

I made a king size bed quilt that had chenille in it, the blocks finished at 8". When I quilted it I just quilted all over the chenille just like the regular cotton. No I did not iron and yes my seams were open. You can do it, it's not that difficult and I even had wavy chenille as well as regular.

I have made a chenille and flannel quilt - twice! made baby sized one for grandson and then he told me it was too small so I made him a giant baby quilt! He is 9. He loves it.
Here is the thread with it:Giant Baby Quilt update with photo
I made the seams a little bigger than a quarter inch. The other one is 9 years old and been washed a zillion times and has held together. Same fabric, same pattern, only more squares. Open seams and no iron. It makes a huge mess and I had to clean the bobbin case very often. I just ditch quilted it because that's what the pattern called for and he was happy with the first one. Very doable!!
