I've never used a bowl cosy so not sure how they work, but it seems odd to worry about cotton batting catching fire when the fabric covering is all cotton? Am I missing something?

I only had one batting catch on fire. I didn't try poly. This was years ago when bowl cozies were first talked about. It was 100% puffy cotton batting . When Wrap and Zap batting was available I used that and never worried about it going in the microwave. Many thought it was too expensive and still used batting scraps and of course some did burn. Follow the instructions on the Wrap and Zap package and enjoy the bowl cozy.

Hi Kalama, the problem arises when people put a bowl into the cozy and then microwave it. Fabric can burn, cotton can burn, microwaves have hot spots. I make certain people know it works like a hot pad, not a cooking vessel. A simple point that most people don't think about. So many people just put it in and walk away.

Most importantly the bowl cozies are made for heating food not cooking food. We have used them in the microwave for years with no problem but no one sets the timer longer than 1 min at a time. Depends on the user knowing how to use them.

I use Wrap & Zap for microwaves but let me tell you what I did.

I sometimes would just grab it for use as a pot holder to hold a handle of a hot pot. Well I don’t remember how it got wet but it was wet with water and I had this bright 💡 idea to place it in my stove oven to dry, since I had it on for something else. Naturally, I was multitasking and forgot it in the oven until I went to check on whatever I was baking. My cozie was as black as darkness and burnt to a hard crip, but it never flamed up or caught on fire. It really didn’t even melt. It stayed the same size just hard as a rock and very black. Good to know it didn’t 🔥 flame.
