I'm three years into quilting (free motion on my Janome 6600) and an opportunity to purchase a Nolting Hobby Quilter 16" has come my way. It is 10 years old, looks like new, wasn't used very much, needs oiling and a good workout. I would appreciate any feedback (pros & cons). Also, what type of mid arm frame do you prefer and why?

Thanks!

I have the Fun Quilter which is the Hobby quilter with a stitch regulator. Never have had a problem with it. Nolting has an excellent reputation and that machine should be a good one. If in doubt call Dan at Nolting in Hiawatha Iowa and talk to him. He is hugely supportive.

I have a Nolting and it is a great machine. My experience is that the customer support is wonderful. My frame is the one from Nolting that came with my machine. If you chat with the customer support folks at Nolting (Dan or Lance) they will guide you to a table that will be suitable. Good luck with it and have fun :D

An additional note to my original post of 8/22--I haven't been to test drive the Nolting HQ just yet, but it did get plugged in and turned on. It was really loud. Is this normal for an older Nolting (or any Nolting)? I'm wondering if it just needed a good oiling and time for everything to get lubricated because it's been sitting for a while.
