Default Which Brother machine should I buy?

My niece wants to learn to quilt and I want to buy her a Brother sewing machine. I want it to have the table (if possible), self threader, automatic cutter, needle up/down selection and that is all I can think that she would require for a beginning machine. I see so many Brother's, I am confused. I would like to keep it under $200, closer to $150 if possible. Any suggestions?

The Costco here has a nice Brother with the extension table and darning foot for about $150.

I just paid $139 for it but I see they have it down to $99 this week.

I bought my Brother CE5000 PRW at walmart for around $129.00. It is a computerized sewing machine but has all the things you mentioned plus lots of different stitches. I have used it to death and it is a real workhorse.

You can narrow down your choices if you can view them and their prices. I would go to Amazon and take a look. They carry practically all of the machines in the price range you are looking for and you can check out the specifications to see which models offer the extras you want. I doubt if you will be able to find automatic thread cutting or needle threading in your price range but you will find they will have the manual needle threaders and the attached cutter. Watch to be sure they have the needle/up down (a must for sure!), they left if off a couple of their really nice lower end machines which I thought was really dumb.

2 of my friends have purchased this machine and both seem to like them so far.

i bought this machine as well. it is light enough to carry around. i love the stitches... they are formed very nicely. the only thing that i don't like is that the 1/4" mark is not accurate. i chose a spot where the light shines on the foot and i've been doing accurate seams since.
