Default Has anybody taken this class?

My sister was thinking of getting this class for our mom for Christmas. Has anybody heard anything about it one way or the other. It is Art Quilting 101 at Craftsy.

It sounds like a class for doing free form art quilts rather than tradional quilting? Is that something she would be interested in? I am some what intimidated when a class has no rules and they want you to explore and create from your own ideas. Something about all that "freedom" I find confining. Silly eh?

I haven't taken that class (not interested in art quilts), but I have bought 3 other classes from that website. I've enjoyed them all and learned a lot. I really like the fact that I can go back and watch lessons over and over or look up just a snippet to help me remember how to do something.

It's nice to hear good feedback. I've been thinking of taking the FMQ class as I am horrible at it.

I have no experience with classes at Craftsy, but judging by the lesson titles of that course, I wouldn't take it. It seems out of sequence and somewhat uncoordinated for an art quilt beginner, at least in my opinion. Art quilting is a very broad area, just like traditional quilting, so an introductory class should cover an overview much wider in order to give the student some idea of what direction they might like to take in the future.

Unless you're sure this class is something your mother would really be interested in, you might consider a gift certificate for a class of her own choice, either at Craftsy or at Quilt University (which has exceptional classes and instructors). http://www.quiltuniversity.com/calendar.htm

Although I haven't taken the class, I would recommend it for someone interested in learning to Art Quilt. I listened to the website ad and it sounded like a good beginning place. Art quilting is fun. And the only rule is "There are no rules." Hope this helped.
