YES to thread cutter, next would be auto thread and needle up/down. Wish those features were on my Featherweight because she makes the best stitches.

Have sewn for years with vintage machines, love my Singer 201 for perfect stitches...but it weighs a ton and not a huge bobbin capacity. Inherited a Brother 1500 and love it! 1st thing to love is the needle down or up, just amazing. Thread cutter- sometimes it unthreads, I dont use it as much as I thought I would, it makes a loud sound too. Auto needle threader--it works fine but I just prefer to thread it myself, maybe because of all the years on vintage machines? I like to keep things simple.

Mine makes a loud noise, too. Scares me every time, like something is exploding under there. Also, it cuts the thread too close to the needle and the needle comes unthreaded every time I start sewing again. I don't need to be aggravated and scared while sewing, so I don't use mine.

I have a Janome 6600 which includes the thread cutter, needle threader, up/down needle control and knee lift. I can honestly say I have never used the needle threaded and mainly use the thread cutter for FMQ. Could not live without that knee lift! Good luck in your decision.

I love my thread cutter................when it works. Found out when it doesn't its just reminding me I may need to clean out the bobbin area. Have another machine that doesn't have thread cutter or automatic foot drop and boy is it a pain to have to do it manually. We get used to these automatic features after awhile don't we?
