I tend to agree with Tartan here. Due to the fabrics involved your hand quilting is not really going to show very much so why make yourself crazy. And I'm a hand quilter as well, lol. Another thought would be 'big stitch' quilting with pearl cotton thread which would show. Color choices are somewhat limited so if you really want your hard work visible perhaps white thread with an easy floral motif in each block. Then you could do some SITD just to hold things together.

i would do boxes in boxes to continue the square theme. Big stitching is an interesting idea. I might try a sample in black thread.

Stitch in the ditch around the first outside strips and then around the center "diamond". It's already pretty busy that quilting isn't going to be much of an addition but a lot of work. Mostly the quilting should be to accent and to hold it all together--my opinion anyhow. (I'm a hand quilter, too.)

I would quilt down the middle of the strips so as to avoid quilting through seams (I can't keep my stitches consistent through seams). Stitching in the ditch as illinois described would be another option.

I am hand quilting a busy quilt just now. I am quilting down each side 1/4 inch in on the sashing and an X in my 9 patch squares. I would SID around the smaller square (not the smallest).

Have you thought about big stitch quilting? It's really fun, fast, and easy and has its own "look".
    Pretty quilt!

I agree to keep it to straight lines matching the pattern, even STID though that would take a couple of years!!

Agreed. That is a good suggestion.
