Buying Material for a quilt
#21
Think I go all ways LOL.... sometimes it hits at the store, or might need just one more to hit it. Sometimes can gather from the stash, Seems to be hungry all the time :)
If for someone that enjoys a theme or it seems like them when shopping that's what I'll go with.
That is what makes it fun, a little this and that !! :)

When you decide on a quilt you want to make, do you buy all the material at the same time--matching material for top with borders and backing? The quilt I'm working on now--material for quilt top was purchased in GA, borders in OH and backing in WV. Did well with material for backing but only feel so-so about materal for borders.
Anyone on this board from the Charlotte NC area?

I often buy as I go, as the requirement often changes once you have pieced bits, and you find another fabric that works better than your first selection. The left over stuff is never wasted, as it can go in another quilt.

Right now I am working on a quilt for parents bed. It is all done in blue batik, so I am buying as I go. Almost ready for border and I think I have some of every blue batik in town but not enough of any. Just might have to buy more of some or make a pieced border. Any ideas for pieced border?

We are beginning to work on Sylvia's Bridal Sampler and I bought the focus fabric for the borders and have been collecting pieces based on the colors in that. Many times I buy what I need for a project because I am afraid I will not be able to find what I want later. I keep reminding myself that if they don't have a particular group of fabrics, it only opens the door to exploring other options.
