I remember reading an article in the last few months about snake quilts - anyone remember it? It was in one of the quilting magazines. I'm going to see if I can find it for you. It was very interesting and might help you date this quilt.

Found it - it's in the June/July issue of Quilter's Newsletter. If you don't have the issue you can get it on their website at www.quiltersnewsletter.com.

It is a beautiful quilt. I've not seen another like it.

I believe it's a variation of the pattern called Baby Bunting.

I looked thru a couple of my vintage quilt books and did not find it. It certainly is a lovely quilt tho.

    A couple of examples:
    from Creative American Quilting (BH&G)
    http://pair.com/threets/babybunting1.jpg

from Legacy: The Story of Talula Gilbert Bottoms and Her Quilts
    http://pair.com/threets/babybunting2.jpg

There's also a dim photo in a book that I can't open flat to scan, A People and Their Quilts, where a similar pattern was named by the maker Rattlesnake, and the text says it was more commonly called Baby Bunting.

It's a lovely quilt. Judging by the fabrics, I believe it is fairly modern. Love the scalloped edges!

It looks to me like these are fan blocks. The fan blocks can be set many different ways like the log cabin blocks.
