Hi all, I have a question on doing borders with directional fabrics, are there any rules? I made this top for my son but it just barely fits the top of his double bed so I'd like to add another border, using the scraps left over to make it a little bit bigger. I'd like to use the bits left over from the animal prints for the last border that I'm going to make about 5 1/2 inches wide. They will be put together with other leftovers to make a scrappy border and there will be corner stones like on the last border. But what direction should I make them? The owls and the snails are facing outward, is that ok? And should the top print be facing the other way? What about the one on the bottom? Does it matter since they will be pieced with other scraps (meaning I won't have much of it in the border, maybe 2-3 ft worth)? Help! I wanted to finish this tonight but I've kinda hit a brick wall with this Lol! Will my son even care Lol? Probably not...
    Thanks!!

He most likely won't care. I personally would stick with having every thing facing the same way, but that's just me...don't even know why I like it that way!

Hmm. I should have said that I'd have about 2ft or less of it in the border, 3 feet is quite a bit Lol

Hi Mom-6, do you mean having the ones on the sides running the same direction-up and down- as the centre blocks?

Looks like you have it laid out perfectly from the picture. I say go with it! Cute quilt, btw!

I don't think he will care which way they are facing. I would piece it and finish it so he can cuddle with it. Bet he loves it. Cute quilt.

I would do it the way you have in the picture. Not worth it to try to make it all go one direction (IMO). It looks good.

Personally, I would use 2 fabrics in each border and have them facing the same way they are in the quilt. I also like the solid block separating the fabrics in the border, nice touch. Just my little OCD kicking in.

I must say, that is a great boy quilt. I'm sure he will love it.
