Is it supposed to be done with orphan blocks?

I'm intrigued and have lots of orphan blocks, but is that how you do this or is it best to make it from all new blocks and follow along from an established pattern?

Any thoughts and pictures of your own quilts appreciated.

Watson.
I hear you. I know very little about this quilt but I think it would be an awesome idea to use orphan blocks and make your own design inspired by this quilt.

LOL, that's the best description of the pattern.

Ha! bearisgray...That's a good one.

I had just assumed this was an old-fashioned pattern from way-back, but I guess it's fairly new. I have a ton of orphan blocks, so I may just do something similar one day.

Here I was thinking there was all this symbolism....phfffttt...

it's a Jen Kingwell pattern and a bit difficult. it's not a huge quilt, but I really wanted one in lots of wild brights--so as the retiring guild president I asked for that (you get a quilt after 2 years) and my friend put it together for me to quilt. love it--but glad that I didn't do the piecing!

I have the pattern and has been on my bucket list. Yes the pattern is somewhat vague. I want to do scrappy, but want a certain cohesiveness to it. When I think of "gypsy wife" I think of someone dressed in bright, lively colors.

There is a thread here for JK quilts.
