How do I care for an old red work quilt that was given to me. Also what about storage?

What shape is the quilt in, Faith? Any mending to be done, or cleaning? If not, the best storage is in a plain cotton pillowcase or archival storage box with acid-free paper. No plastic boxes or bags, no cedar chests, no mothy-balls.

Faith,
Most folks will fold the quilt in half and then in half again. Please do not do this as the quilt will break down at these fold lines. Additionally, by folding this way repeatedly, the folds really get set. Fold the corner in like the flap of an envelope, then turn in one side, then the other, fold the top down again until you have a somewhat square or rectangular shape. Then store in an old cotton pillowcase. Keep out of the attic heat and sun. Refold every 3-6 months or so. OR, put it on a guest bed either over or under a different quilt. Suzanne
