I have a kind of Spanish tile and cannot imagine, even in a nightmare trying to keep carpet clean with all the strings etc. We actually burned out my daughter's vacuum when all the strings got wound around the brushes.

I really like my laminate floor. So easy to sweep, and sometimes I do that 3 or 4 times a day.

I love wood floors, so much easier to clean. Also chair rolls easier. Our entire house has either wood or ceramic tile. Threads are much easier to clean up. A swiffer works great.

I removed carpet also and had a Burke laminate installed . It's 60% recycled material. -- distressed pecan - very warm and quilty looking.

I have a real wood floor as opposed to a laminate floor. My chairs are really making a mess of my floor. I agree they are easier to clean I run a swifter every day to keep it sort of dust free.

In the process of removing the carpet to replaced by laminated flooring. Much easier to keep clean.

No carpet in sewing room, laminate in kitchen, dining room and sewing room, much easier to keep clean than carpet.

Wood, but it can be scratched by furniture, boxes etc so have light rugs; not the best idea because they slip. Don't use plastic as I do on carpet as fear that grippers would scratch. Maybe an area rug would be a good idea!

carpets can hide a pin or needle; which your toe will discover for you unexpectedly.

As far as carpet hiding pins snd needles, I have a magnet stick that I bought at JoAnn's. I just run it around my sewing area. If you're not into bemding there's a magnet that comes on a long handle. Also, I've begun using the large pins with flower heads, so much easier to use and see. For all floors the large acrylic mats that can be bought at the office stores protect your floors and make it easier to roll your chair.
