Quilting Diary

Quilting Diary
I started a new quilt top this morning. I only work on one quilt at a time because I work full time and it takes me 2 months to finish a lap quilt. Anyway, I thought with this quilt I would keep track of the number of hours I work on it and how long each task takes. I'm also going to keep track of how many bobbins I wind and how often I have to clean out the lint from the bobbin area. This morning I spent 1 1/2 hours ironing and starching 6 pieces of fabric and cutting 6 - 2 1/2" strips from each fabric for a total of 36 strips. Then I cleaned my machine, wound 4 bobbins and changed the needle on my machine, that took me 15 minutes.
Does anyone else keep track of their time or the number of bobbins you wind for a project?

I do not keep track of bobbin fills or time spent in the sewing process. I am a very slow quilter. I design most of my quilts in EQ7 and so use the date in the saved name of that quilt project. Then, once finished and the quilt is ready to mail, I take a digital snapshot of it and save that on my PC's hard drive; again with the date. With these two dates, I know roughly how many weeks/months it took to make the quilt. It does not at all tell me the effort involved though. Since I usually piece both the fronts and backs of my quilts they do take me a long time. I started a quilt back in November 2012 and I am still putting the borders on the pieced backing!

Oh, my lands, that already sounds depressing....an hour and 45 minutes and you haven't even started sewing! Yet that's what most of us do.
You've convinced me to never keep track, just focus on "the good stuff"!
But, you go for it, girl!

I tried but failed miserably. I'm with Jan...I'd rather be sewing.
Good for you if you can keep up. Sometimes I wish I kept that diary up-to-date.
It's nice when you have UFO's and want to know what stitches or what thread
you used. I never kept track of hours or amount of thread though. Way too much
for me. LOL
