Take 2 squares (any size) and sew completely around their perimeter.....

both squares the same size or any size for each square?

Sew around each block separately? Or sew blocks together with wrong side facing or right sides facing?

Draw 2 diagonal lines on the non-one you want to be in the center from sewn corner to corner...

2 lines forming a X through the block?

Take your scissors and cut along both lines for ONLY the non-center fabric. So now you have a full square on the bottom and 4 little triangles attached on the outside but loose in the center.
    Press open....

I'm completely confused without a picture...

Bonnie Hunter also has a 'cheater' pineapple block/quilt and scrappy. Called Pineapple Blossom.

What you are describing sounds like the block I learned from Karin Hellaby's publication "Sew Simple Pineapple."

Here are the websites you can visit to learn more about her and the methods she developed:
    www.karinhellaby.com
    www.quiltershavenpublications.com
    www. quilters-haven.co.uk
    www.blog.quilters-haven.co.uk

Her methods are really fun, quick and easy. Enjoy:-D

For your visual learners - this is very close. The big difference is Patrice has you cut FIRST, whereas how I saw it, you sew first, and then cut the triangles, but it's still the same triangles being cut.
