Default Childs Bed roll for sleeping

Hello QB,
Has anyone made a bed roll for a toddler to nap on? How do you know how thick the bed roll needs to be? I am thinking if it is too thick I will not be able to sew it together but I would like to to be comfortable for sleeping. Any suggestions that you can give will be appreciated.

Is this to be on the floor or on the bed? Years ago my mother made my 2 sons alligator bags to sleep in. The mouth was the opening and they loved them. They were used on top of their mattresses.

Is this for at home or to take somewhere else (like preschool)? If it's for home, you can make a large pillowcase bottom, then insert a king size pillow. If it's to take somewhere, you can make a thick quilt and then fold it (maybe zipped or snapped together), for the bottom. The top could be attached down the middle, so that when the bottom is folded, it covers the top side. I can "see" this in my head but am probably not explaining it very well.

I looked at "quilted nap mats" on pinterest .... found many ideas on making one, maybe more than one. I am wondering if these would sell well at craft fair.

I made two of these for my friend's grandsons (if I can get pic to load!). I made the top part large enough for a regular pillow or the rolled up part of the quilt. I started to make it double thick with batting, but changed my mind.

For preschool, you could just make a quilted cover, for a standard nap mat.

How about a pillow mattress? I'm in the process of making my fifth one. Every grand kid will now have one. They love them. Here's the link to the pattern: http://webstore.quiltropolis.net/sto...&item_id=22071
