Choosing Labyrinth Walk Fabric

Choosing Labyrinth Walk Fabric
I finally got my pattern in the mail to start up the Labyrinth Walk quilt. In the fabric requirements they are saying x amt. of black batik, x amt. of white batik..etc. Do I have to use batiks? Will it not have the desired effect if I use other fabric choices?

You can use almost any fabric you would like, as long as you maintain the light/med/dark values. I say almost because a large scale print would probably not be appropriate. Very small scale prints, tone on tone, mottled, solids etc. would look good. They said 'batik' because that was the fabric used in the photo of the quilt, and if you want to duplicate it that's what you would use.

If you prewash the batiks separately form the Kona, I don't see a problem with doing that. Batiks have a protensity for the colors to run and I find that dark colors can do that too. I often combine the two fabrics.

You can use any fabric you want, in any color you want. The only requirement for success is Value... Very dark to very light. Make a little swatch card ( I use an index card and little 1/2" X 1" pieces of each fabric) number the fabrics on the Pattern then number your ( version) fabrics on your card so you can keep track.... Being organized is really necessary with that pattern.
