I LOVE the new block you added. That's going to be such a beautiful quilt. I'm sorry I don't know about the double sashing thing, but I'm sure someone will have a reply on that

In my mind Christmas colors are red, green, white/cream and metallic gold.

My daughter goes for blue, white and silver.

Whatever you want is the main thing!
