My son (who lives in Florida) has asked me to make him a quilted tree skirt (for next year) and while I have several good ideas, I am looking for more. Ideas anyone???

I think any pattern would work, sometimes it is just the color choices. I had one that everyone likes that has a black background, with small ivy pattern in it. It was with a flying geese design. I don't think I can forward the pattern though, but I am positive you can work in out.

He said he thinks he would like something in the traditional Christmas colors and not too light in color - I was thinking maybe a crazy quilt type. Another thought was one with a nativity scene appliqued on a dark background (he also thought that sounded nice). Here is a photo of one I made for me but I don't think he wants "snowmen" in Florida.

I saw one once that was large holly leaves cut and sewn individually. They were overlapped at the center circle and it was made of clusters of berries. It was unique and very pretty. The quilting on the leaves made the veins.

Thanks for suggesting this - I did find quite a few ideas that way.

This is what I did. I had bought one of those pre-quilted tree skirt panels. Used it as a template. I cut out a white on white fabric and sewed it pillow case style to the panel. I turned it inside out, sewed the opening shut. I ironed it. then I cut out houses, a church, trees, snowmen, holly leaves and berries out of homespuns and other fabrics. I then appliqued them on to the treeskirt and quilted it as I saw fit. Now it is under my tree!
Good luck. I hope this inspired you somewhat. :D
