church society quilts

My granfather was a Baptist minister and in that denomination (at that time) they moved a lot.
One church made a memory quilt for my grandmother and each member signed it. I think it was before 1900. I had never heard anything about it, but when my mother died, it was given to me. I had never heard of the village in NH either so it took a while to do anything.
The church closed many years ago so I called town hall asking about people whose name was on the quilt. My sister and I decided to give it to the historical society -- they were thrilled and the curator was a descendent of one of the signers. My sis took it up and they had a very nice ceremony of thanks
I wish I had taken a pix -- it wasn't a pretty pieced quilt -- just the squares with signatures.
I hope the Dorcas quilt finds a good home

That was great of you to donate it to the historical society. Now decendents of the signers will get to see it and think of how happy that will make them. Good going!!!
