Default Class M bobbins for longarm

I've been looking at class M bobbins and there seems to be 3 different kinds. One just has a hole in the center, the other has a hole and slot (similar looking to a class L) and the other has holes all around (similar in looks to a metal class 15). Are these all interchangeable in longarm machines that take the class M? If so, which would be the most popular or desired?

Also do longarmers usually buy prewound bobbins or prefer to wind their own?

This is for a swap on another board and all I know is the person wants class M bobbins for her longarm. Thanks!

I got the ones with the slots. I got a box of 100 from an ebay seller, for my Tin Lizzie, which came with solid sided bobbins which my dealer was happy to sell to me at several dollars each. I think that the theory is the ones with the single hole, or slot may be a bit out of balance, but I haven't had any problems.

Some machines are pickier than others - can you ask them what bobbin specifically and maybe a link to what they normally purchase so that you can make a good choice?

Thanks. This is a secret friend swap, so I can't ask. I don't even know the brand name of the longarm -- only that she wants size M bobbins.

I buy Magna-Glide bobbins from Fil-Tec; price is reasonable and they last along time. IMHO, much better than winding my own...

I think most long arm machines use M class bobbin and they are all the same with or without holes. I would buy the prewound bobbins as they are very desirable for most long arm quilters and from a lot of feedback on different forums the most popular website for prewound bobbins is http://www.bobbincentral.com/. It is best if you call them and ask their recommendation.

We have the ones with just the hole for the Juki 2200, and the ones with the slot for the Handi Quilters. The ones with just the holes don't play nice in the Handi Quilters. Have not used the ones with the holes all around.

I actually do not care much for the prewound bobbins, however, I know other longarmers swear by them.

M is the size of the bobbins. they all will interchange though some machines are picky. I love prewound for longarming as they hold soooooo much more thread than when you wind your own

My Nolting 30 Pro uses size M bobbins and it is because I have the larger bobbin case so that I can go longer between bobbin changes. If she uses the pre-wound bobbins, you can get them at Filtec Bobbin Central. They say that people like the pre-wound bobbins because they have fewer tension issues with them. I just use the regular metal ones that I refill myself.
