I agree. Mini-vac is great when I don't want to spend time cleaning & just need to get the majority of the lint out, but the tiny pipe cleaner-like brush that came with my Bernina works better (and, I use toothpicks & pipe cleaners to clean my classic Singer).

One thing you have to be careful with vacuuming...if you have any loose
parts in your machine it will suck it up with the lint. It happened to a board
member a while ago. You might want to put a piece of thin cloth or stocking
between the attachment and the hose... just in case. I'm quite happy sticking
with pipe cleaners.

I bought a set of mini tools also. I don't use them a lot, usually just a brush.

What areas do you clean with your tools? I clean the bobbin area and the race but I'm not sure if I should be cleaning more?

I have a set of mini's to use with the vacuum. I do use them to get the really obvious pieces of lint and fuzz, but I agree that nothing beats a cotton swab to get bits and pieces that are somewhat hidden.

I've used my vacuum cleaner for years. Works great, but I still take my machine in periodically to be professionally serviced.

I have that set too, but never used it. Might have to try it, just about finished my current quilt and my machine will be due for a cleaning.

I use all of the above. I like using the mini vac while cleaning just in case some lint gets pushed down in while cleaning with the other things (-tips, etc.). It works well.

I, too, have the mini vacuum and use it periodically. I also use the canned air, but always from the BACK of the machiine, never the front. I had a Bernina instructor do that and I commented on the idea that you never use canned air because it can just drive the lint back into the works. She said it's fine as long as you always spray it from the back. It's surprising to see that lint and fuzz come flying out to the front, where it can be vacuumed or brushed away.
