i haven't tried Elmer's glue! I have heard of local sand castle builders spraying their creations with a mist of diluted glue....that might work with quilting.

Google how-to use Elmer's Washable School Glue to quilt.

I have also heard of using the school glue when stitching on binding to the back.
Some people like it for zippers.
