does anyone know if you use the color catcher on red, does that stop it from running or just not ruin everything else?

I don't think they stop fabrics from running, they just grab dye that gets loose in the water. I think you have to set the dyes with Retayne or something like that to eliminate or reduce the amount they run.

Is the red already in a quilt? I had a red and white quilt that the white turned slightly pink in the wash. I had prewashed the red fabric and thought it would be fine in a quilt. I rewashed it with three color catchers the red came out of the white. If the fabric is not in a quilt, prewash it in Retayne before using it. If you are trying to see how much it will bleed, hand wash a piece of the red, scrunch out most of the water with your hand and place the ball of wet fabric on a paper towel to dry. Examine the paper towel after the fabric drys and if there is staining on the paper towel, you know you have a bleeder.

It doesn't stop it running...it just prevents the red from settling on other colors.

the color catchers do not stop fabrics from bleeding- they simply collect the color that runs into the water- so the color does not get on other fabrics.
if you wash a fabric 2 or 3 times and it is still putting alot of color on a catcher there's a chance it will never stop running until the color is gone. there are products available to (help) set dyes

Just this morning I read a Consumer Reports review of Color Catchers. They didn't seem to think the catchers worked but I've used them for a few years now with great results. So much for the Consumer Reports review. LOL

I use them because I live alone and don't have a full load to wash of dark/whites. Used them for years. Wouldn't want to be without them.
