Overall ... I like the grapefruit/orange and grey combination. Not crazy about the single yellow, I have two thoughts on that. One is that it's too bright and "primary" compared to all the other toned down secondary colors. I would choose a yellow that is a little more muted to compliment the other color palette. The other thought is that is "lonely". Adding one more fabric perhaps a grey with yellow print would round the pallete out nicely.

With regard to the fabric choices, they kind of scare me The texture would be awesome - the mix of cottons and satins and flannels ... but I would worry about how they will behave together to be sewn and laundered. If you pre-washed - great - if not - I think you are going to have a very bad surprise. Also, with the satin and the flannel you really should use a larger seam allowance because they both fray a lot - but as you've already cut them (and presumably to the same size) your next option would be to stay stitch around the edge of all of the squares. Ugh.

Good luck, the color pallete is lovely!!

I love the greys in it. I do agree about the yellow. Maybe a toned down yellow would be a bit better. But everything else looks good to me.

I think it's a yummy color combination. I wouldn't worry too much about the different fabrics either. Sew them together and then quilt it fairly close and you probably won't have a bit of problem with it. And even if it does odd things when you wash it, it's not the end of the world.

I love your great mix of colors, and think the yellow is perfect. Check out the Jaybird Quilts blog, and her new book Skip the Borders, for a quilt idea--she used bricks, but you could use squares instead, or cut them in half to make bricks--with three rows of offset bricks and solid gray horizontal strips between the sets. Your colors would be stunning in that layout.

I agree with the yellow comments....either add a yellow flower pattern or no yellow. The yellow by its self looks out of place.

Not necessarily omitting the grays, but perhaps find lights and darks with a subtle pattern and maybe adding a darker graphite gray? We all see changes we could make if it were our own, but as it is (but for that bright yellow) I think it'll make a beautiful quilt whatever block you choose. Can't wait to see what you decide to do with it!

Take out the coral flannel and insert another yellow there.

Stacey, I really like these colors, especially the swirly grapefruit pink! However, I would would be wary of the satin and would try to find that shade in cotton instead, just to avoid headaches. And yes, I, too, would add a more muted yellow to play with its buddy Bright Yellow.

Can't wait to see the finished product. I think it will be lovely.
