This is a very general rule to determine a price. Total cost of ALL materials and supplies used in the project --- times 3. So if you have invested $5 in making the purse -- you should charge at least $15 for the finished product. I hope this helps ----- I know several crafters that use this guideline ---- they all think it is a fair profit margin for themselves and reasonable for the customers, too.

I suppose I could save money by making my own binding and making a cloth handle. That would keep it under $5. The pattern recommends a cloth handle but they put cotton cording inside the handle. Or I could use decorative cording.

There is no 'fine print' or a disclosure on the pattern.

do you know how to crochet a chain stitch? it is not hard and would look GREAT for a strap :D you could even crochet out of matching fabric :D
depending on WHERE you are selling I would ask from 15$ to 20$ for one.

OOO - I like that idea. I do know how to crochet. I'll have to try that. Thank you for that suggestion. I have some thin black nylon cord that would work, too. I used it to crochet belts. Now you've got my mind going in some new directions.

Chain stitch is really easy! anyone can do it, the nylon cord would be great! hey! you could even make a button, or knot type closure with the cord... that would look awesome :D :D :D

To price handmade objects for resale, I use a percentage based on my personal feelings of self worth and the quality of my work. Usually a 100% mark up over the cost of materials if just selling from my home. If I have to pay for a table, booth or website listing then 150% above the materials cost. The idea here is to make a profit. Don't sell yourself short!

That's a really cute pattern! If you're going to make several of them, you might want to just buy yardage instead of FQ's. In some cases, it works out less expensive. Also - look to thrift stores and repurpose clasps and buckles etc from old purses and belts.
