Will new low shank attachments fit on my old (1955 Singer) low shank machine? I noticed on ebay that 'low shank' attachments are cheaper than attachments that specifically say the old machine model numbers.

I have used new low shank attachments on old Singers with no problem.

My 5 year old singer feet will fit on my pre 1940 Feather Weight. Give it a try. You'll know if they will fit when you put the new on the old machine.

I bought a generic walking foot from Joann's hoping it would fit my 193? Singer Model 66. It is not a slant shank machine though.

I had purchased one for my new Janome the same day and it cost $35.00. This was was $9. something after the 40% coupon. The clerk told me to save the receipt and package and if it didn't work, to return it.

It works perfectly on both machines. Even better than the Janome foot on my Janome machine!

I would say, give it a try. I don't see why it shouldn't work! you could always sell it or give it as a gift to someone.

    Good luck!

as long as it says "short shank", it should work.

Wow! Thanks ladies! I've been looking at the 'vintage' attachments and some of them are outrageous! This is good news. Thanks for your help. I love this board!

As long as they are low shank, they will fit...now, if they are a snap-on low shank...you may have to get a shank, too(only about $3). The 1955 Singer had the feet and shank as one.

It also works the other way too. Vintage feet and attachments will fit newer machines. My ancient old Singer buttonholer which is older than I am, fits my Janome 6500 just fine. I like having buttonholes that are exact and the buttonholer does a much better job than the built in one on my Janome. Generally short shank attachments will fit other low shank machines. The exceptions seem to be Bernina and Husqvarna although I did use a low shank even feed foot (walking foot) on a Bernina machine using the Bernina adaptor post.
