Can anyone comment on what the difference is between minky and cuddle fabric? is cuddle a better brand than what is available at big box fabric stores? Tia

I think the original manufacturer of this type of fabric was Benartex. Their product is called Minkee Blankee. I think Shannon's brand name is Cuddle. I think those 2 brands are the LQS quality.

Thanks PaperPrincess, is there any difference in sewing with them?

Shannon Cuddle is pretty awesome! I remember Benartex Minkee, but the price was higher than the Shannon.

You can buy "Minky" at JoAnn's but it can be so stretchy, that it's really hard to work with.

They all make a terrible mess. And as a longarm quilter I couldn’t see much difference in them as backing.

I would say a good 50% of the quilters where I work are using the 90" wide minky for quilt backs. The quilting designs show up beautifully on the back.

If you roll the minky in your dryer on a cool setting, it removes the lint. Minky is only naughty when you cut it.
