I've just done something similar to this as my design wall - nailed up 2 centre brackets meant for a curtain pole, with a dowel rod to hang a crib-sized wadding to act as the 'wall'. It wouldn't work with anything much larger than this (the dowel is only 1m50 long), but so far it is working like a dream for me.

So much better than suspending it on hangers on the top of the wardrobe doors!!

The only "wall space" I had in my studio was a closet door. I put curtain brackets and curtain rod up above the door. (high enough so the door can be opened) I used a piece of flannel as the design surface. I used the clip on curtain rings on the flannel. When I need to get in the closet I just "open the curtain". I also used the same idea to display quilts on two different walls in my house. Nice brackets and rods and nice clip on curtain rings to attach quilt. When you want to change the quilt on display, it only takes minutes. And no more thumb tack holes in the walls. LOL. I know, that is a big NO NO. Also , you don't have to sew a rod pocket on the back of the quilt.

Using my "design wall" for the second time. How in the world did I ever plan placement of blocks before? lol
