Sure, You can go straight to 5 D. I have 4 D now and I am very pleased with it. Of course 5 D does more stuff than the previous ones but, for no more than I use it, 4 D works just fine for me. It is always spooky to get a new software or new computer. Seems like we always have a problem of some kind or another.

Someone suggested a free software download that I could test out. It gave my PC a lovely virus that required a tech to get rid of.

Now I'm wondering if I need to start over (like I can afford that!) And of course I have a UFO that the embroidery isn't finished on.

The good news (I guess) is that I DO know where my dongle is!

Becky, Guard the dongle with your life....There is no getting a new one. My friend was a dealer and someone in class pulled it out of her computer and broke it. Even she had to buy a new suite...That can be very costly. As it is absolutly no good without the dongle.

I was just "googling" this issue and bumped into an article having a .pdf file that walks you through trouble shooting. One of the things it says is to not be plugged in to the internet when you set your computer up and load the software. It couldn't be that easy a fix, could it?? Dang, I get sidetracked so easy...I'm also very curious...

You can try it. I am never on the internet when I install a new software program. I am sure it will not work. But, try it and let me know!! All I know is that 3D will NOT work with Vista. This came from the SOS through viking Husqvarna software helpline...Which I paid extra for as I was having so many problems with it.
