I cut sitting down all of the time. I used to have a coffee table that was the perfect height and width for me. How ever we moved and the coffee table didn't fit in the new house so I have been trying out different ways for some time. Now I am moving into my new quilt studio and I have a professional light table that also doubles as a cutting table as well as a counter height table that I can sit at.

I use my ironing board --- just lower it to the height needed.

I found a decent hi table that's about 38" tall with two hi chair intending to give DIL but she moved in with a friend so I kept it. It's perfect height and the 36" cutting mat fits just right on top. No more back ache for me! And I can sit to read patterns or if I have to, cut with scissor at it.

I use my ironing board too but mostly because I have such limited space to work in. Just have to be careful; Which sometimes I am not so much...

I don't have a coffee table so I'm really out of luck!

I finally got bed risers under my cutting table which has made it bearable to cut what ever I need to, after 6 back surgeries I am finding anyway I can to make either cutting, ironing or even sewing the least painful as I can. I use our very high king sized bed for sandwiching my quilts as it sits just high enough to reach my waist which makes it perfect for my mostly queen sized quilts. Here I have been thinking that I'm the only one that is in so much pain to make a quilt, I'm sorry to say there are many others with the same pains. I wish all your pains would go to me so your quilting would be easier for you all. God Bless you all my fellow "Quilters In Pain"

My thoughts exactly! I have to take lots of breaks when standing; don't know why I never thought to use the coffee table and sit down. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have been known to use my kitchen tops either standing , just right , or sitting on a bar stool slightly higher than normal. Just right.
