    Default Jack's chain/ring cycles

Hi - I've fallen in love with the Jack's chain posted by Cam's gram from the quilt show, and I've been studying it, but there are some important things I'm not getting:

    1. Is Jack's chain kind of the same as "Ring Cycles," except for the center?

    2. Is there a special way to get the overlapping, echoing, circle effect (not sure what to call it), maybe using certain values together? I have seen a few online that do not have it, but the show quilt really did.

    3. Can you get the circle effect by using brights on a dark background? Might I get discrete circles instead that simply sit there?

Thankful for any comments you can share.

    hugs,
    charlotte

oddly, when I Googled 'quilt pattern jack's chain', the first image that came up was Ring Cycles!

I just finished and posted pictures of a quilt called Rainbow of rings. It is the similar pattern to Jack's Chain. I use a light background with 30's prints for the 9 patches. It is a challenging pattern. I can answer questions on assembly if that helps. The secondary 'ring' pattern forms when the blocks are put together. I will look forward to seeing yours.

I also love Ring Cycles and have the pattern. Have not got brave enough to start it though.

Wow! Just looked at the link, that’s gorgeous and looks very daunting to piece.

I love this quilt pattern, too... I'm going to make it, also. I wonder size the 9P's are finished? I suppose you can make them whatever size you want increasing size of hexi and filler diamonds, as well. It does look like a bit of a challenge. Mary....I'm going to find yours!,

Edit to add: OMGosh, Mary....yours is amazing. Like the quilt show's rendition, I like the white diamonds instead of print fabric. Just gorgeous!!

Have just been studying Jacks Chain and Ring Cycles, and there seems to be a technical difference. I'm assuming JChain has each 'ring' joining by a 9patch, whereas the RCycles is joined by the triangles which forms the diamond, and the circles appear to overlap. The latter is on my list too.

I've been in love with "Jacks Chain" for a few years now. One of these days I'll make one big enough to cover my bed and then retire from quilting....LOL

Jack's Chain Quilt is the seventh picture from the Chicago Quilt Show today. Love it.
