One other thing to try is a new cutter. I just bought a 60mm Olfa Ergonomic Cutter with a blade lock at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Show. I got a great price on it because of the show, but after using it I can say it would be worth the money even at full price! My Carpal tunnel had been acting up w/my old cutter, I can't believe how much easier this cutter is to use. It just glides through the fabric and I haven't had trouble with it skipping on me. Maybe give it a try!

I cut away from myself. My daughter taught me how to use the rotary cutter but she forgot to tell me to stay away from the edge. So the first time I used it, I sliced my left hand index finger from the knuckle attached to the hand all the way down my finger to the tip. She yelled, 'We are not at a deli'. Took a week before I could try it again. Now I am more careful. And I always close the blade when I lay down the rotary cutter, ask me how I found out that little piece of advice.
