This is the disappearing 9patch I just finished. I watched a youtube with Donna Jordan (Jordan Fabrics). As Ariannaquilts says, it is one of the easiest blocks to make. It can be made in so many variations.

Welcome from Texas! I really like all the "disappearing" type blocks & especially the D9P (disappearing 9 patch). How wonderful that you and your 4-H advisor have stayed such close friends all these years. That's a real testimony to true friendship!
Since you've received so much information from board members already I'll just say I'm glad you are here & we would love to see the quilt when you have it finished.

DP9 patch is an easy pattern to make and I have seen tutorials on utube from Jordans Fabrics and Missouri Star Quilt Co. If you go to these web sites I think you will enjoy watching the way each one makes the blocks. very nice of you to want to make a quilt for a friend of many years. She will treasure your gift.

Thank you. The fabric was a real challenge for me. I made this for my cousin as a “memory” quilt. The fabrics were from her bridesmaids skirts, She got married about 5 years ago. I kept looking at the fabrics but could not figure out what pattern would look good. Finally I just grabbed the skirts and cut the waist bands off etc to make myself actually look at it seriously, then I decided on this pattern. I don’t think it is a “heirloom” quilt but I hope she likes the fact that it is done and she can wrap up in the people she loves. :-)

My first quilt was a d9p. I used a charm pack for the corners, white in between and a solid for the center. It was pretty good for a first quilt. The third one looked like a d9p, as well. However, I just sashed the 5" I Spy charms on two sides with a cornerstone. It was tons easier than making the nine patch, cutting it up, squaring it up, then sewing it together and squaring it up again. I didn't feel like I was doing the same thing over and over (I know, that makes no sense.). It was a lot easier for me to match the seams, too.

This is the way I made the sashing for the second one:

Thank you all for your amazing help and pictures of your beautiful quilts. I have one more block to do on my Christmas quilt, put it together, borders, back, then I will make this quilt. I can't wait to get started. You are all so kind!!

Thank you, mjkgquilt! We didnt have much control over the fabric colors being the 5” squares were all donated. The only unifying factor was that they were all batiks. But, all things considered, we were able to piece enough blocks for 3 quilts - which actually was one more quilt than we anticipated! 😊
