I forgot about the Ricky Tims d.r. table method.....
I still use the window/sunlight method.
I want to do something home-made - the commercial prices are WAY too expensive for the little use it gets.

Very ingenious. I have a plexiglas extension table on my machine. I lay my Ott-Lite under it with the light shining up and it makes a great light box.

I bought one years ago at Hobby Lobby. Use it mostly when I applique. Couldn't be without it.

I have a glass top table so the odd time I need a light box I put my night table lamp under the table. Works great!

I use two tv tables with a storm window over it and a lamp underneath. Works like a charm.

If you have a table with leaves, separate and remove the leaves. Cover the opening with glass or plexiglass and put a light under the table. I have also used a milk crate or a cardboard box with light inside and plexiglass on top. Keep in mind that cardboard is flammable.

I use my Sew Steady table also with my small Ott task lamp underneath. Works like a charm.

I have a plexiglass extension for my sewing machine (the sew steady table) under which I have placed a small broad spectrum grow light tube. It gives me more accurate color than a florescent, and because I do a lot of paper piecing, it allows me to see right through the paper or the fabric right at my sewing machine. I can turn it off easily since there is a switch on the cord of the light, but I don't find it a distraction at all to have it on. It actually gives me good lighting for my stitching on the machine, so I don't need another light hovering over my machine. Also the sew steady table has legs instead of sides, so there is no heat build up like you would get in a "light box".
Of course, I don't get the excercise others might get by walking over to their light box.

Yes, use a lightbox for both art and quilting. It is an awesome tool.
