This is what I do, too.

I also machine sew the binding on the front then turn and sew the back by hand. I too find it very relaxing.

I bind all my quilts by machine on the front and by hand on the back. I feel I put all that work into a beautiful quilt so I can't shortcut on that.

Of course, you could see the stitches on the front of the quilt, but I was wondering how many quilters do it all by machine, or if the hand stitching is preferable. I know there are no "quilt police" lol, but I still want to know what the general consenence is.
Machine stitch all. Don't intend for any of mine to be in a museum and want them to last. Besides I can't do much hand stitching because of arthritis.

I am pretty sure that I will always hand bind the back of every quilt I make..An old woman told me a long time ago who had been quilting for over 80 years..she died at the age of 102 , three days after she had finished her last quilt.."You put a piece of yourself in every finished quilt and I want to always do that...Blessings !!

I sew it on my machine and stitch it down by hand. It just looks neater.

Both depending on what I am doing. I like the finished look of hand done binding. But I have done quick machine binding on quilts most for kids and dogs.
