I found an ad for a Singer 301 with cabinet for $150. The ad says it is "fully functional and comes with a foot pedal." They are willing to sell the 301 separate from the cabinet. I don't have room in the sewing room for the cabinet. So I asked her what she is asking for the machine alone and she asked what I'm willing to pay. I honestly have no idea what to offer. There is no mention of parts included with the machine. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts they could share?

I paid $60 for mine in December, but I had to pay another $21 for shipping. No attachments, just the machine with a new foot control.

I think it would depend on how nice the cabinet is. If it's a really nice cabinet then she could get good money advertising just the cabinet without the machine. I have several 301's but it was only recently that I found a cabinet, with the special cradle in it, that would allow me to use my 301's in it.

Start your bid offer at $50.00 max, because if she wanted $150.00 total for machine in the cabinet and you're not taking the cabinet, I assume the cabinet will be at least $75.00 depending on the condition of the cabinet itself.
No feet included is something you would have to collect for your machine.

I paid $20.00 for my 301A Long bed from CL and the paint's chipping in some areas, but it's functional. Then I invested $60.00 worth of parts at my Singer Dealer shop (new foot pedal, 4- bobbins, bobbin winder tire, Singer oil and new straight foot) this totaled to the amount of $60.
I cleaned it up, oiled it and lubricated the gears/ because for servicing it will be about $65.00. The bobbin case is very expensive; make sure that is not corroded and your foot pedal wiring not frayed or taped wiring.

All Singer shops SHOULD carry parts in need for these machines.

Thank you to all of you for your suggestions!! I e-mailed her asking her more questions. The machine is a 3 hour drive from here so I want to learn as much as possible to make sure it's worth the trip.

cctx - I don’t know if the bobbin case is original or not (that’s one of the questions in the e-mail.) Since she said it runs there must be one in it. A bobbin case (original) costs $100 but is hard to find. I think the bobbin case for my FW would fit the 301. Do you know if I’m correct on that?

The Featherweight bobbin case will work. They are about 40.00 on line or on Ebay. Don't pay 100.00 for one. I have one that I would sale in cabinet with attachments and it works wonderful and I would ask 150.00 for it too. Depends how bad you want one I guess.

I think the 301's are selling for more money right now. I got one off ebay last fall for $50, plus shipping. It's a long bed, came with everything. The case smelled really bad, put some dryer sheets in it and it's better now. It sew's like a dream.

Yes the FeatherWeight bobbin case should fit the 301, but don't pay the $100 for it.

At the Singer dealership, it's priced at almost $65.00 and that's the bobbin case holder and the bobbin.

Shop around or call your dealership stores in your area.
If you have a Singer dealership in your area, they are supposed to have these items available for the customers.

Thanks again for all the great info! Thanks also for looking out for me on the price of the bobbin holder. I could just use the one that's on my FW now :) Hopefully this machine will already have one but just in case I wanted to check here first.
